Senator Abdul Ningi Demands Action Over Xenophobic Attacks on Nigerians
The lawmaker representing Bauchi Central, Senator Abdul Ningi, has called on the Federal Government to take concrete steps against the rising xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians living in South Africa.
Ningi urged Nigeria to sever all diplomatic relations with South Africa until the safety of its citizens is guaranteed.
He noted that despite the evacuation of more than 1,200 Nigerians, the South African authorities have only issued cautions to their own people, offering no real protection.
“End whatsoever diplomatic relations with South Africa. Nigerians have been killed left, right, and center, and there has never been any action except to condemn it by mouth,” Ningi stated.
He described the violence as physical, not merely rhetorical, recounting how attackers invade homes and businesses, chase, kill and burn victims without warning.
“As we speak, over 1,200 Nigerians are already being evacuated. What did the government do? Issue a caution. A caution for what?” he asked.
Ningi questioned whether Nigerians, even if suspected of criminal activity, deserve such brutal treatment, contrasting the situation with how the United States protects its citizens abroad.
