Former AAC Candidate Chioma Ifemeludike Withdraws from 2027 Anambra Central Senate Race
Chioma Ifemeludike, who had secured the African Action Congress (AAC) ticket for the Anambra Central senatorial district through a consensus during the party’s primary in May announced her withdrawal from the 2027 general election.
Withdrawal Letter Shared with Media
The candidate’s letter was made available to journalists on Friday. In the correspondence she informed the party’s National Working Committee that she no longer wishes to contest the Anambra Central Senatorial District seat.
She also requested that her name be removed from all records processes and activities linked to the senatorial ticket.
Principles and Recent Events Influencing the Decision
Ifemeludike said her decision followed careful reflection and was guided by her personal convictions commitment to justice accountability and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
She pointed to recent developments particularly the handling of the case involving Baby Testimony and the child’s physically challenged mother in which Doris Ogala Umezurike played a role. According to her the manner in which the matter was managed prolonged the mother’s suffering exposed her to public embarrassment and raised doubts about whether true justice was being served for the child.
These concerns strengthened her resolve to step away from the race and focus instead on advocating for justice accountability and the protection of the vulnerable.
Party Response Expected
Ifemeludike has again urged the AAC to completely erase her name from every consideration relating to the Anambra Central senatorial candidacy. The party’s next steps remain to be seen.
