Kwara APC Lawmakers Endorse Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu for 2027 Governorship Bid
Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly gathered on Tuesday to voice their support for Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election. The endorsement came during a press briefing held at the Assembly Complex in Ilorin.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, Majority Leader Abdulkadri Magaji dismissed reports claiming that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had not yet conducted a governorship primary in the state. He described such claims as false, misleading, and capable of sowing unnecessary tension within the party.
Magaji emphasized that the APC had duly conducted its primary election and produced a governorship candidate for the 2027 race in accordance with the party’s constitution and internal procedures. He urged party members and the general public to disregard the rumours and focus on unity.
The lawmakers based their endorsement on Danladi-Salihu’s track record, legislative experience, and contributions to governance in Kwara State. They noted that his leadership qualities position him well to steer the state forward and sustain the developmental strides of the current administration.
According to the legislators, the collective backing reflects confidence in his ability to unite stakeholders and advance the interests of Kwara State. They reaffirmed their commitment to the APC’s unity and progress, pledging continued support for initiatives that promote good governance and development.
Magaji also assured President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the lawmakers’ support as preparations for the 2027 elections get underway.
Rukayat Shitti, the member representing Ilorin East Constituency, added that opposition to Danladi-Salihu’s emergence stems mainly from personal ambitions rather than the collective interest of party members and the people of Kwara State. She affirmed that the Speaker enjoys broad support within the APC and among lawmakers.
The lawmakers called on all party stakeholders to concentrate on strengthening the APC ahead of future political activities, warning against divisive speculation that could undermine party cohesion.
