Temi Otedola Embraces the Nepo Baby Label
Nigerian actress and media personality Temi Otedola said she would never reject the “nepo baby” label, insisting she has no reason to deny the advantages her family’s background gave her.
Expecting her first child, Otedola argued that recognising privilege is simply being truthful and does not undermine anyone’s achievements.
She explained that privilege extends beyond famous parents, covering financial security, quality education, and opportunities many lack.
“You don’t have to be famous to be privileged,” she said. “Privilege is growing up in a home where your parents had money, you never struggled, and you had access to education, food and a solid foundation that not everyone receives.”
Using a hypothetical example, she described nepotism: if her child wanted to be an artist, she would connect them with a producer and fund a music video – an unfair advantage.
“You will never catch me, on or off camera, saying I’m not a nepo baby. I find it absurd when people refuse to admit their advantage. It would be unfair to claim otherwise,” she added.
Otedola stressed that admitting privilege does not erase hard work. “I was given a leg up, and I made the most of it. I don’t understand why people struggle to say that. I think they feel it discounts what they’ve achieved.”
“I certainly benefited from the privileges earned through the hard work of those who came before me,” she concluded.
