Senator Rufai Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, has rejected claims that switching political allegiance constitutes a betrayal of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He stated that his loyalty to Kwankwaso remained intact even after Governor Yusuf departed from the movement.
“Now, if I leave Kwankwaso, nobody can say I betrayed anybody. If anyone says I betrayed someone, I will recommend that person be sent to Goron Dutse Prison or Dawanau Psychiatric Hospital.”
Speaking further, Hanga assessed the prospects of the NDC 2027 presidential ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing its chances of winning the upcoming election as slim.
He explained, “In the North, Obi has Kwankwaso as his running mate, but Kwankwaso’s popularity is largely confined to Kano. Even there, his support is about 50/50 because, during our time in the ADC, we had allies in Katsina, Jigawa and Kaduna who refused to follow us into the NDC and stayed with the ADC.”
Hanga also argued that Peter Obi’s political influence is mainly limited to Anambra State and parts of southern Nigeria. In contrast, he believes the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would stand a better chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the North West and North East, citing rising public discontent over insecurity and economic hardship.
