Samuel Anyanwu Announces His Intent to Contest for Imo State Governorship
The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has proclaimed that it is his turn to lead Imo State, following the tenures of former governors Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha and the current officeholder Hope Uzodimma.
Speaking at a party gathering, Anyanwu noted that all previous PDP leaders who have governed the state came from the “old PDP in Imo” and have each served as governor.
He expressed confidence that other aspirants will step aside, saying it would be fair and just to give him the opportunity to contest in the forthcoming election.
“We were four strong PDP members — myself, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, and Emeka Ihedioha. As God may have it, all three of them have ruled over Imo State, and I have remained myself. I have come to take my turn and I believe the other contestants will make space for me.”

Anyanwu added that political power is not given but taken, and he remains focused on his objectives.
He also voiced optimism about the PDP’s future, stating that the party is growing stronger, more united, and gaining thousands of new supporters.
“Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united today. Our number is also growing by thousands. I’m saying this clearly and honestly: PDP is the only party our people really trust, and we won’t let the people of Imo down.”

He urged new party members to work hard and secure the party’s backing in rural areas, warning rivals that their tactics will not succeed this time.
“Listen to me — there’s nothing they know that we do not know, and there’s nothing they possess that we don’t already have. No matter how they want it done, we’re up for the challenge. But we’re telling them that their tricks won’t work this time,” he said.
Anyanwu revealed that the party has placed monitors at every polling station to safeguard the voting process and ensure that results favour the PDP.
He concluded by invoking the “Divine Mandate” and the “Mass Movement for Sam Daddy,” calling on all stakeholders to unite and involve the Imo people in what he described as a new political song for the state.
