PDP Official Clarifies Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 Presidential Ambitions
The South East Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ray Nnaji, has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not obtained the party’s presidential nomination form for the 2027 elections.
According to Nnaji, individuals promoting Jonathan’s candidacy are merely exploiting the former president’s reputation for political gain. He accused them of profiting from the situation and urged security agencies to investigate their activities.
Nnaji described the claims that Jonathan had purchased the PDP form and would run in 2027 as “gimmicks” aimed at using the ex‑president’s name to play a game. He noted that while Jonathan had mentioned he was consulting, he has not entered the race.
“Jonathan has not said he is running, only for them to claim they have screened him. All these maneuvers are just tricks. The court suit is merely a way to show he is capable of running. Ultimately, the police or the EFCC will look into it. Some people are making financial gains out of this — it is a crime. Check the INEC website; you will see who is actually listed,” he said.
The PDP chieftain also cautioned Jonathan against contesting the 2027 presidency, warning that it would be a serious mistake.
“It would be a big mistake for the former president to run. He would tarnish the good name he earned by handing power to someone who defeated him as an incumbent,” Nnaji added.
No PDP Faction in Enugu State, Nnaji Insists
Nnaji also addressed reports of a PDP split in Enugu State, where two parallel governorship candidates — Samson Nnamani and former Minister Uche Nnaji — had emerged.
He explained that Samson Chukwu Nnamani had been suspended from the party after violating constitutional provisions through anti‑party publications. A petition was filed against him, he failed to defend himself, and the national office upheld the suspension.
Despite the suspension, Nnamani allegedly organised individuals claiming they had suspended the other candidate. The PDP’s national team from Abuja conducted the primaries, cleared both aspirants to contest, and later sent the elected names to INEC, which included Uche Nnaji.
Nnaji said the Abuja‑led primary panel was headed by Austin Nwachukwu from Imo State. He stressed that Wisdom Okoye, who some claimed led a pro‑Nnamani group, was never sent by the national organising secretary and is not recognised by the PDP.
