A public policy analyst and political communications strategist, Kenny Okolugbo, has sharply criticized Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for purchasing the governorship nomination form aimed at a second term.
Background on the Alleged Agreement
Speaking on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’, Okolugbo stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had made it unequivocally clear that an understanding existed: Fubara would not pursue a second term.
Okolugbo’s Criticism
Okolugbo, a former aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, argued that Fubara should never have bought the nomination form, especially given the strong opposition within the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He elaborated, “Wike made it very clear and didn’t hide the fact that there was an agreement that Fubara would not go for a second term. But as the deadline approached, it began to look like Fubara was set to breach that agreement.”
“When you have 30 members of the House of Assembly and 27 of them are against you, you must try to win them over; if you cannot, then you should step back,” Okolugbo added.
Implications for Rivers State Politics
The analyst’s remarks highlight growing tensions within the state’s political landscape, suggesting that Fubara’s second‑term bid could further alienate key legislative allies and destabilize his administration.
