A Nigerian woman turned to X to reveal a troubling and bewildering family incident that left her emotionally shaken, involving her mother and her husband’s younger brother during the postpartum period.
She explained that after giving birth, her mother came to stay and help with traditional omugwo care.
What should have been a supportive recovery period quickly became a source of shock and tension.
Shocking Discovery at Home
She said the incident involved her husband’s 32‑year‑old younger brother and her 57‑year‑old mother, who had been residing with her for roughly three weeks.
“I delivered my baby last month and my mother moved in to assist with omugwo. She left her own home to help care for me and the newborn. My father passed away more than six years ago; we are five siblings—three girls and two boys—and I am the second child.
My mother has been with us for about three weeks, and something occurred that has left me stunned, ashamed, and bewildered. We discovered my husband’s younger brother, aged 32, in bed with my mother, who is 57.
Mom, I don’t even know how to process this. I feel deeply embarrassed and disappointed. I keep wondering how my husband views me and my family now. The worst part is that his brother claims they are both adults and free to do as they please.
I was so furious I told my mother to start packing her belongings because I no longer want her staying in my house. At this moment I’m unsure how to explain the situation to my siblings, or whether I should tell them at all.
I feel embarrassed and completely confused. What would you do if you were in my position? How should I handle this, and how is my husband perceiving my family now??”
