A man has ignited online discussion after revealing why he decided not to attend his close friend’s wedding despite being deeply involved in the preparations.
He explained that he had been actively assisting the groom leading up to the ceremony and had originally been chosen as one of the groomsmen.
To honour their friendship, he spent ₦80,000 on a tailor‑made suit for the event.
However, just before the wedding, circumstances shifted unexpectedly.
Weeks of Planning
He recalled playing a key role in organizing the celebration, saying, “We had been planning the wedding together for months. I accompanied him to the market to purchase items, helped secure the MC and DJ, and contributed to various other arrangements.”
He emphasized his full commitment to ensuring everything went smoothly and noted that he had no reason to anticipate any alteration to his assigned role.
Sudden Adjustment
“Then, a day before the wedding, he informed me that I would no longer serve as a groomsman. Instead, he asked me to oversee the drinks during the reception. I had spent ₦80,000 on a suit simply because he was my good friend, and now he is sidelining me, perhaps because the other attendants are more affluent,” he said.
He added that he chose not to address the issue directly with the groom.
The incident has provoked a range of reactions on social media, with users debating the nuances of friendship, loyalty, and the expectations tied to wedding parties.
Many expressed sympathy for his disappointment, while others maintained that the groom retains the authority to decide who participates in his wedding.
