Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has likened President Bola Tinubu to Singapore’s founding leader, Lee Kuan Yew, stating that the President’s economic reforms are laying the groundwork for a stronger Nigeria.
Uzodimma Compares Tinubu to Lee Kuan Yew
In a statement released by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, Uzodimma described Tinubu’s policies as bold and capable of transforming the nation.
He said, “In President Bola Tinubu, we have another Lee Kuan Yew,” referencing the leader who turned Singapore from a poor British colony into a global economic powerhouse.
Immediate Action on Economic Challenges
The governor noted that Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, with a clear grasp of Nigeria’s economic problems and began implementing reforms right away.
“The old order is gone and there is now a new order. President Tinubu knew exactly what he came to do. He started implementing the reforms immediately because he understood the task before him,” Uzodimma added.
Biblical Analogy and Temporary Hardship
Uzodimma compared the country’s pre‑reform struggles to the Israelites’ bondage in Egypt, arguing that tough decisions were necessary to free Nigeria from years of economic hardship and stagnant growth.
While acknowledging that the reforms have caused short‑term difficulties for many Nigerians, he insisted that positive outcomes are already emerging.
Tangible Benefits and State‑Level Investments
Higher government revenues have enabled states to fund infrastructure and human‑capital projects. In Imo State, the Renewed Hope Agenda has made possible investments in roads, healthcare, education and technology.
“Everything we are doing in Imo today is made possible because of the Renewed Hope Agenda. We are investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education and technology because the reforms have created the enabling environment for development,” he said.
Confidence in 2027 Re‑election
Uzodimma expressed confidence that Nigerians will re‑elect Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election as the benefits of the reforms become more visible.
Journalist and Presidential Adviser Remarks
Veteran journalist Dr Soni Daniel, speaking on behalf of media participants in a state‑wide inspection tour, praised Imo’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education and digital technology, noting that the tour showed how public funds are being used.
He added that the projects visited demonstrate Imo’s emergence as a leading state in infrastructure development and economic transformation.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, commended Uzodimma for executing infrastructure projects and implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda, citing the Imo Digital City, the 2,000‑bed Infectious Disease Centre, the Heart Transplant Centre, the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre as examples of successful federal‑state collaboration.
