Imo APC Chairman Calls for Unity Ahead of Tinubu’s 2027 Re‑election
The Imo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Austin Onyedebelu, said the party will “fight like a wounded lion” to secure President Bola Tinubu’s return to office in 2027.
The gathering, which included local government and ward executives, elected council chairmen, councillors and other party officials, was convened to strengthen coordination ahead of the next general elections.
Onyedebelu stressed that unity remains the APC’s strongest weapon and urged members to work together to deliver overwhelming victories for Tinubu and other APC candidates across the state.
He warned that party officials would be held accountable for their areas’ performance, adding that excuses after the election would not be accepted.
“If you lose our votes we are going to hold you responsible. Don’t tell us why you failed after the election. Tell us now what will make you fail so we can address it. If there is anything or any leader that will sabotage our efforts, you must tell us now for us to address it,” he said.
The chairman urged a focus on genuine grassroots mobilisation, insisting that real votes — not shortcuts — are the only path to victory.
He also cautioned members against anti‑party activities, warning that those who aid the opposition would see little reward when the opposition shares the “proceeds of victory.”
Describing the 2027 polls as a defining moment for Owerri Zone’s ambition to produce the next governor of Imo State, Onyedebelu called on everyone to stay committed.
APC State Secretary Onyekachi Ibezim noted that the meeting allowed the State Working Committee to engage directly with grassroots leaders, whom he described as the party’s engine room.
Responding for Owerri Zone, APC State Vice Chairman Justus Ogu assured the committee that the zone would not disappoint and would deliver victory for the APC from the presidential race down to the State House of Assembly contests.
