Governor Uzodimma Responds to Davido’s Osun Election Remark
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has replied to Afrobeats singer Davido after the musician called on an unnamed Imo politician to guarantee a free and fair Osun State governorship vote.
Davido’s Allegation of Political Interference
Davido, who has been publicly backing his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, claimed that a politician from Imo State was scheming to meddle in the election and urged that individual to let Osun residents pick their next leader without interference.
Uzodimma’s Response via His Aide
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma dismissed the comment as misplaced, noting that the appeal should target the Osun electorate, who will decide the outcome through their ballots.
“It is rather pedestrian for Davido to direct such an appeal to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum simply because his wife is from Imo State. Instead, his appeal should be directed to the people of Osun State, who will ultimately decide the election’s outcome through their votes,” he said.
Commitment to a Free and Fair Election
The governor reiterated his commitment to a peaceful, transparent and credible election, stating that the APC will keep campaigning for its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Claims of Adeleke’s Shortcomings and Voter Sentiment
Uzodimma also asserted that Governor Adeleke has fallen short in office and that many Osun voters are eager for a change.
“The signals emerging from across Osun State are clear. A growing number of voters have turned away from the current administration and are ready to embrace a new direction. Rather than trying to sway Governor Hope Uzodimma with emotional pleas, Davido should focus on preparing his uncle for life after politics. Perhaps he should also start making arrangements to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical group, since the electorate’s mood suggests Adeleke may lose his political seat after the August 15, 2026, governorship contest,” he added.
