Governor Okpebholo Celebrates Edo Queens’ NWFL Triumph
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated Edo Queens FC on securing the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) title, describing the victory as a proud moment for the state.
In a statement released on June 15 through his media aide, Patrick Ebojele, the governor lauded the players, coaching staff, technical crew and club management for their dedication, discipline and relentless commitment throughout the season.
A Reflection of Edo’s Sporting Excellence
Okpebholo noted that the team’s success showcases the talent, resilience and determination inherent in Edo athletes, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a leading sports hub in Nigeria.
“Edo Queens have made the people of Edo State proud. Their achievement reflects the spirit of excellence, hard work, and determination that defines our people. I congratulate the champions and assure them of our continued support,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing sports through improved infrastructure, increased support for athletes and policies designed to create opportunities for young talents across the state.
According to the governor, sports remain a powerful tool for youth development, empowerment and unity, and his government will continue to provide an enabling environment for athletes and teams to excel at both national and international levels.
Okpebholo also urged Edo athletes to stay focused and committed, assuring them that his administration will keep investing in initiatives aimed at restoring Edo’s position as a powerhouse of Nigerian sports.
He further described Edo Queens as worthy ambassadors of the state and encouraged them to continue inspiring young girls and aspiring athletes across Edo State through their achievements.
