Governor Adeleke Says 2026 Osun Governorship Election Is About Respecting Voters, Not Just Winning
Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused former governor Gboyega Oyetola and the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, of using their influence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to retaliate against the people of Osun State for voting his administration into office in 2022.
In a statement released on Thursday, Adeleke claimed the duo leveraged their federal‑level connections to punish workers, traders, artisans, and ordinary citizens, targeting their welfare and livelihoods.
“On numerous occasions, Oyetola and Oyebamiji have used their influence within the ruling party at the federal level to punish the people of Osun State simply because they chose to vote for us in 2022,” Adeleke said. “Their actions have targeted the welfare of our workers and threatened the livelihoods of our civil servants, traders, artisans, and ordinary citizens.”
He stressed that the August 15 election is more than a quest for victory; it is an opportunity to send a decisive message to the APC that the will of the people must be respected.
“That is why the August 15 election is more than just winning. It is about securing a decisive victory that sends a clear and unmistakable message to the APC: the people of Osun State must always be respected, their democratic choice must be honoured, and no one should ever seek to punish them for exercising their constitutional right to vote,” Adeleke added.
