Fubara’s Allies Join Wike-backed Coalition
Former Senior Special Assistant to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Darlington Orji, and ex‑Transport Commissioner Collins Onunwo have reportedly become members of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State. Their move follows recent political shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development came after Governor Fubara withdrew from the APC governorship primary, clearing the path for House of Representatives member Kingsley Chinda to emerge as the party’s candidate. Some of Fubara’s loyalists expressed disappointment, saying they had supported him throughout the prolonged crisis.
Orji announced his decision on Facebook, sharing photos with coalition members and writing that he had “returned home to my family.”
ADC Names Deputy Governorship Candidate
In related news, the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) named David Amapakaye Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election. He will run alongside ADC gubernatorial hopeful Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson. The party described Okumgba as a seasoned administrator, accomplished businessman and experienced political leader whose dedication to public service and democratic values has earned him respect across the state.
ADC officials said Okumgba was chosen for his political experience, organisational ability, interpersonal skills and deep understanding of Rivers State’s socio‑political landscape, adding that the Pidomson‑Okumgba ticket embodies competence, experience and inclusiveness.
