A Surprising Turn of Events at Work
A Nigerian entrepreneur recently opened up about an unexpected incident he experienced while working for his former employer.
He explained that he was shouldering nearly all duties at one of his boss’s retail outlets and eventually voiced that the workload had become overwhelming for a single individual.
He proposed hiring a sales assistant to share the load, and after interviewing several candidates, one young woman was chosen.
The two started working side by side in the shop, and initially everything proceeded without issue.
However, the dynamic shifted after the female employee claimed she needed to attend her older sister’s traditional wedding and traveled away. Coincidentally, his boss also left for the village around the same time.
Later, he learned that the woman had been secretly involved with his employer. When they returned, the boss reportedly presented her as his wife and told him to start calling her ‘madam’.
He noted that the atmosphere grew tense afterward, as the woman allegedly began giving him orders and asserting control over him in the workplace.
Despite the ordeal, he said he eventually moved forward and felt thankful to have endured the difficult period.
Speaking in Igbo, he recalled the events in his own words.
“When I was doing everything for my boss at his shop, the work was too much, so I asked for a sales girl. Four women applied, I sent them to my boss for interview, and he picked one. We started working together, and suddenly she became my madam. I didn’t realize she was seeing my boss until she told me she was traveling for her sister’s traditional wedding and would be away five days. I informed my boss, who said it was fine and gave her five thousand naira. This happened years ago. Two days later my boss said he was going to the village, and I didn’t think much of it. When they returned together, he introduced her as my wife from then on. I suffered greatly; she began sending me on errands, even to buy food for her, and started checking my belongings. I witnessed many things, but thank God I made it through.”
He later shared a video on TikTok that illustrated the situation.
