Background of the Service of Songs
Media personality Daddy Freeze has disclosed the reason behind his exit from the memorial service held for late actor Alex Ekubo.
In a widely shared video, he explained that he arrived anticipating a solemn gathering aimed at mourning the actor and comforting his bereaved family.
He noted that he was taken aback by certain elements of the program, especially the continuation of formal worship despite the actor’s death.

Freeze’s Concerns About the Program
Quoting Nathaniel Bassey, he said, “They were supposed to pray for Alex on Tuesday, but he passed on Monday. Yet they gathered on Tuesday and kept singing and praying. I wonder, what became of the miracles and healings you often showcase on your platforms?”
He also criticized the well‑known gospel artist and organizer of the Hallelujah Challenge, challenging the authenticity of some miracles and testimonies regularly posted on his channel.
Preference for Family Voices
Daddy Freeze added that he would have preferred to hear more from Alex Ekubo’s immediate family—his widow, siblings, and relatives—rather than long sermons and speeches.
Although he stayed through the preaching segments, he ultimately left when the mood shifted.
Concert Atmosphere Prompted His Exit
He recalled, “Mercy Chinwo took the pulpit and transformed the event into a concert. That’s when I stood up and walked out.”
Online Debate and Public Reaction
His comments have ignited a mixed reaction online; some believe funeral rites should be reflective and centered on the deceased, while others contend that praise and worship are fitting ways to honor the dead.
The discussion persists on social media, with Nigerians expressing varied views on how memorial services and song services ought to be conducted.
