Citizens of Igboho in Oyo State broke into jubilation after a abducted family—comprising a pregnant woman, her offspring and a brother—were said to have regained liberty following a two‑hour deadline set by Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho.
Footage circulating on the internet showed emotional moments where locals sang, danced and celebrated the alleged freedom of the hostages.
This turn of events followed a stern warning issued a few days earlier by Igboho aimed at suspected Fulani chiefs and community figures in the region, responding to an uptick in kidnappings and insecurity.
In a widely shared video, the activist voiced frustration over reports of kidnappings and killings allegedly perpetrated by criminal groups operating locally.
“The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person. I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen.”
Igboho further demanded the immediate release of the seized individuals, imposing a two‑hour ultimatum and warning that non‑compliance could provoke additional measures.
He also claimed that certain criminal elements had converted sections of the locality into hideouts, pledging that such conduct would not be tolerated any longer.
“I am giving you two hours to release the woman and the children you kidnapped overnight at their residence. Once we rescue those children, we must not see any of them in this bush.”
After the ultimatum, inhabitants were observed celebrating what many regarded as a community triumph, with video clips depicting large gatherings greeting the supposedly liberated victims.
The alleged liberation brought comfort to Igboho residents, yet anxieties persist regarding the escalating security difficulties confronting localities nationwide.
