ADC Chieftain Claims Governors Budgeting ₦800bn for Tinubu’s 2027 Bid
African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that state governors are already mobilising ₦800 billion to support President Bola Tinubu’s political campaign for the 2027 general elections.
Politics Described as the Only Thriving Sector
Okonkwo described the current administration as a “government of catastrophe,” stating that politics has become the sole flourishing business under Tinubu’s rule.
Critique of Tinubu’s Economic Record
He accused the President of failing to deliver on key promises, noting that the only commitment Tinubu appears to have kept is borrowing heavily, as reflected in successive national budgets.
“First of all, let’s be realistic, this has been three years of catastrophe,” Okonkwo said. “The only thing I can concede to President Tinubu is that in the budget, all the amounts he said he was going to borrow, he borrowed it. That is the only thing he fulfilled.”
Debt Management Concerns
Okonkwo questioned the Federal Government’s debt management approach, arguing that relying on GDP‑based assessments is misleading for a nation with weak productive capacity.
“A government that is not producing anything is now dubiously computing our debts based on GDP,” he warned. “Any country that is not a producing nation must denominate its debt to its revenue, otherwise it will run into problems and eventually face bankruptcy.”
Rising Insecurity Described as a Killing Field
On security, the ADC stalwart said Nigeria has deteriorated into a killing field, ranking as the fourth most terrorised nation among the 195 countries worldwide.
“Nigeria has become a killing field,” he stated. “You have 195 countries on earth, and Nigeria is the fourth most terrorised nation.”
