PDP Candidate Raises Concerns Over BVAS Performance
Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, voiced strong criticism of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) after observing repeated failures at his polling unit on election day.
Speaking to reporters, Oluyede said the device was malfunctioning, causing a sluggish accreditation process. By the time he addressed the media, only six voters had been accredited since voting commenced at 8:30 am.
INEC officials were seen attempting to fix the equipment, but Oluyede described the situation as unacceptable.
Allegations of Supporter Harassment
The PDP hopeful also alleged that some of his supporters were being harassed by security agents at various polling units, a claim he said was not receiving media coverage.
“The electoral process is nonsense. A lot of my people are yet to vote because the BVAS is not functioning properly,” Oluyede remarked, adding that similar machine faults had occurred at his unit before.
He pledged to file formal reports of the irregularities with the appropriate authorities and urged INEC to ensure greater transparency in the conduct of the election.
Despite having cast his own vote, Oluyede said he would remain at the polling area to make sure all his supporters could exercise their franchise.
