NDC Condemns Court Order Deregistering ADC and Other Opposition Parties Before 2027 Elections
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised a Federal High Court ruling that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Accord Party and several other opposition organisations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered the judgment, ordering INEC to immediately strike the affected parties from the electoral register.
The NDC argued that the decision should not be seen as isolated, warning that an action against one opposition group could eventually impact others.
The party urged Nigerians to unite in defence of democratic values and political plurality, expressing solidarity with the deregistered parties and insisting that every political platform has a legal right to exist and participate.
According to the NDC, the court order raises serious concerns about the future of opposition politics in the country and could weaken political competition, reducing the voices available to voters.
The party concluded: “The court order must be condemned by all and sundry. An injury to one is an injury to all. We stand in solidarity with these opposition parties and call on every Nigerian to resist the attempt by the rudderless APC to drift our nation into a one‑party state.”
