APC Maintains Ali Pantami Still a Party Member
The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ali Isa Pantami, remains a member of the party, despite his emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state.
APC Publicity Secretary Moses Kyari said the proper procedure for a member to leave the party was not followed in Pantami’s case.
The controversy arose after Pantami emerged as the PDP’s gubernatorial flag bearer following the APC primary that produced Jamilu Gwamna as the party’s candidate.
Kyari explained that the ward executive committee in Pantami’s locality said it never received a resignation letter from the former minister and never convened to discuss or approve any such resignation.
Most members of the ward executive publicly denied having knowledge of any resignation letter allegedly submitted by Pantami, describing the claim as fabricated without their awareness or approval.
Requests by ward officials to obtain a copy of the alleged resignation letter have been unsuccessful, leaving the APC without any official record confirming Pantami’s exit from the party.
Kyari quoted the ward committee: “Twenty‑five out of twenty‑seven members publicly stated they neither saw nor deliberated on any resignation letter purportedly submitted by Professor Ali Isa Pantami. They maintained the claim was a fabrication orchestrated without the knowledge or approval of the Ward Executive Committee. Despite repeated requests, members have not been provided with a copy of the said letter.”
He concluded: “It is therefore our position that Professor Ali Isa Pantami remains a member of the APC until all due processes are properly followed and verified.”
