Lionel Messi Confirmed Fit for Argentina’s World Cup 2026 Opener vs Algeria
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that captain Lionel Messi is fully fit and available for the team’s opening FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Algeria after recovering from recent hamstring discomfort.
Speaking with Tribal Football, Scaloni said the Inter Miami forward is ready for action and remains on course to make history by appearing at a sixth FIFA World Cup.
The coach also gave positive updates on goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who had been nursing a fractured finger, and striker Julián Álvarez, recovering from an ankle problem, noting both will be available for the tournament opener.
Despite the excitement, Scaloni urged calm, stating that while the first match is important, it does not define the campaign, and praised Messi’s enduring influence as a constant source of inspiration for the squad.
