Kola Oyewo’s Son Reveals Father’s Final Words
Oluwatobi Oyewo, the youngest son of late veteran actor Kola Oyewo, has shared details of his father’s final days before his death at the age of 80.
He said that two days before passing, Kola Oyewo began speaking in a calm yet unusual manner, often using parables and mentioning relatives who had already died, including his wife Aduke, who passed in 2020.
On the morning of his death, the actor had a video call with his eldest son, appearing calm and cheerful despite being hospitalized.
Oluwatobi also recalled his father’s long health battle, noting an enlarged prostate diagnosis in 2019, a prior surgery, and years of managing the condition.
Toward the end of last year, his health deteriorated, making everyday activities like driving and traveling increasingly difficult.
Although doctors recommended another surgery, the risks were high and Kola Oyewo chose not to undergo it, feeling he had accomplished his life’s goals.
The family honored his decision, recognizing his desire not to become a burden to his children.
He added that the actor seemed to be mentally preparing for death, frequently expressing concern about being a burden and speaking as if ready to go.
Quoting Oluwatobi: “He passed on Friday at about 6:30 p.m. Two days before he died, he spoke mysteriously, using parables. My elder brother had been caring for him in Ife, where the family resides. In those words, he seemed ready to depart.”
“He told my brother it was sad to leave behind such good children. Later that morning, my eldest brother spoke with him via video call; they laughed and joked. When asked if he was heading home, he replied yes, but we later understood he meant going home to the afterlife.”
“He kept speaking in parables. Since our mother, Aduke, died in 2020, he often mentioned her name, saying, ‘Aduke, mo ti se tan o’ – meaning ‘Aduke, I am now ready.’”
