Oshiomhole Challenges Obi’s Leadership Record
The Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has accused the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of failing to address rising insecurity during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
Oshiomhole, who governed Edo State from 2008 to 2016, contrasted his own record with that of Obi, who led Anambra from 2006 to 2014 before handing over to Willie Obiano.
He stated, “Peter Obi could not fix insecurity in Anambra State. It took the intervention of Governor Obiano, who took over from him and began to destroy the properties of those whom he believed had used their compounds for kidnapping.”
The former governor added that, during his time in office, Edo State was comparatively safer than Anambra under Obi’s administration.
Oshiomhole described the severity of the kidnapping epidemic, saying it had reached a point where wives kidnapped husbands, husbands kidnapped wives, and children were forced to bring money for ransom.
He also criticised Obi’s recent comments on ethnic profiling, urging political leaders to offer concrete solutions rather than slogans.
“Recently, he said we shouldn’t be doing ethnic profiling. Fine. What then should we be doing? Everybody knows that things are not perfect, but a statesman must provide answers. There have to be specific new things that they will bring. But we haven’t heard anything other than the buzzword, ‘Do the right thing.’”
Oshiomhole concluded by predicting a decisive victory for Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election, suggesting that Obi’s supporters would not replicate their previous vote share.
