The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has publicly challenged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to identify individuals allegedly pressuring him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Mutfwang previously claimed certain APC figures feared his potential move. He suggested many party members would welcome his defection. Addressing the matter, Mutfwang stated:
“It is not a lie that they also put pressure on me. But I told them that only two people would authorise me to change parties. One is the God of heaven, then the other is you, the people.”
Reacting to these claims, APC acting publicity secretary Shittu Bamaiyi suggested the defection controversy reflected poorly on Mutfwang’s governance. Bamaiyi argued that satisfactory performance would have prevented such discussions.
The APC spokesperson maintained that Mutfwang should have revealed his alleged persuaders if he prioritized his supporters’ interests. Bamaiyi further commented:
“Whatever may be the case, it is a big minus for a sitting governor when an opposition party objects to his joining. This is especially true when that party aims to win upcoming elections.”
