Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has made it clear that he does not rely on Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards to prove his talent. In a candid interview, he stated that his confidence in his acting ability comes from within, not from any external accolade.
Edochie pointed out that some of the performances he delivered several years ago remain unmatched by his peers today. He believes his body of work speaks for itself and that he continues to set a high standard in the industry.
Respect for His Father Keeps Him Humble
While he acknowledges his own skill, Edochie avoids labeling himself the greatest actor out of deep respect for his father, Pete Edochie, a towering figure in Nollywood. He said this humility is a tribute to the legacy his father has built.
The actor also emphasized that he bears no ill will toward the AMVCA organisers. He has never taken to social media to complain about missed nominations or awards, explaining that he is not bothered by their decisions.
Focus on Consistent Excellence
For Edochie, the priority is always to deliver strong performances whenever he appears on screen. He said he gives his best effort in every role and leaves the judgment to viewers and critics.
He added that public opinion or personal feelings toward him do not sway his mindset. Instead, he remains focused on personal growth and continual improvement in his craft.
In his own words: “Performances that I dropped four, five, six years ago no actor has been able to replicate till date. I am one of the greatest. So I will not wait until AMVCA calls me. Call anybody you want to call. I do not have any problem with them. Have you seen me rant on social media before? A group of people gathered to say this is who they are giving to. I am not bothered. Anywhere I find myself I will keep doing well. Any movie you keep me, I will do my best and drop a fantastic performance. Your like or attitude towards me does not concern me. I have fans from all over the world. My worth is not determined by you. My worth is determined by God. It is determined by the amount of work that I put in and the viewers.”
