Norway Announces World Cup Squad
Arsenal midfielder Martin Ødegaard has been named captain of Norway’s 26‑man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The final list was revealed on Wednesday via a pre‑recorded video posted by King Harald V on social media. The unconventional method left some players, including Derby County defender Sondre Langås, uncertain about their inclusion until the video finished.
Surprise Inclusions
Uncapped goalkeeper Sander Tangvik received a surprise call‑up after an injury ruled out Mathias Dyngeland. Tangvik’s opportunity arose because former Russia Under‑21 goalkeeper Nikita Haikin could not complete his nationality switch in time for the tournament.
Attacking Firepower
Norway’s attack is led by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, one of the biggest names in world football. He will be supported by Alexander Sørloth (Atlético Madrid), Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig), Oscar Bobb (Fulham), Andreas Schjelderup (Benfica), Jens Petter Hauge (Bodo/Glimt) and Jørgen Strand Larsen (Crystal Palace).
Midfield Creativity
With Ødegaard expected to orchestrate play from midfield, Norway also includes Sander Berge (Fulham), Fredrik Aursnes (Benfica), Patrick Berg (Bodo/Glimt), Kristian Thorstvedt (Sassuolo), Morten Thorsby (Cremonese) and Thelo Aasgaard (Rangers).
Defensive Line and Goalkeepers
Goalkeepers: Orjan Haskjold Nyland (Sevilla), Egil Selvik (Watford) and Sander Tangvik (Hamburger SV).
Defenders: Julian Ryerson (Borussia Dortmund), Marcus Holmgren Pedersen (Torino), David Moller Wolfe (Wolverhampton), Fredrik Bjorkan (Bodo/Glimt), Kristoffer Ajer (Brentford), Torbjorn Heggem (Bologna), Leo Skiri Ostigard (Genoa), Sondre Langås (Derby County) and Henrik Falchener (Viking).
Tournament Outlook
Norway opens its World Cup campaign against Iraq in Boston on June 16, followed by matches against Senegal and France. The expanded 48‑team tournament runs from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada and Mexico. With a blend of experience, creativity and attacking quality, Norway aims to make a strong impression on the global stage.
