A Nigerian woman ignited online debate after revealing that her younger relative reportedly diverted ₦150,000 intended for a startup venture to finance a night of clubbing.

She explained on the platform X that she chose to assist her cousin after multiple relatives praised the young woman’s diligence and entrepreneurial ambition.
She emphasized that the funds were given in trust, hoping they would enable her cousin to achieve financial self‑sufficiency.
A few weeks later, she discovered clips showing her cousin at a nightclub, tossing money around with friends, which contradicted the original purpose.
Shock upon seeing the club footage
Describing the moment, she said she was stunned by the Snapchat clips and promptly confronted her cousin about the intended business.
She recalled, “Last month I handed my younger cousin ₦150,000 to launch a small enterprise, as everyone in the family insisted she was responsible and driven.”
She added, “Just two weeks afterward, I spotted her on Snapchat flaunting cash in a club alongside her friends.”
She noted that her cousin confessed the money had been spent for pleasure rather than investment.
The cousin remarked, “Life is brief; I chose to enjoy the money first.”
She said the confession left her feeling deeply let down, particularly after the personal sacrifice she had made to provide the funds.
Family response amplifies the frustration
The matter grew more aggravating when another relative defended the cousin’s behavior.
She revealed that her aunt later reached out, advising her to show more leniency given the cousin’s youth.
She expressed, “What irritated me most was that my aunt later phoned me, insisting I should ‘understand her’ simply because she is young.”
Feeling betrayed and lacking support, she resolved to cease any further financial assistance to family members.
She declared, “From that point onward, I have refused to provide financial aid to any relatives.”
She further noted that several relatives have since labeled her arrogant and wicked because of her stance.
She concluded, “Now the entire family brands me proud and wicked; I wonder if I was mistaken to sever ties after that incident.”
