The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) faces a worsening internal crisis. This follows Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s registration into the party. A disputed factional leadership handled the registration.
Spokesperson Condemns Fubara’s Registration
APC Spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, strongly condemned this move. He issued a scathing statement on December 12, 2025. Nwauju called the registration a direct “assault on the rule of law.” He also branded it a “brazen ridicule of the judiciary.”
Nwauju highlighted two relevant court judgments. These included the August 12, 2024, ruling by Justice Sika Aprioku. Another was the December 20, 2024, ruling by Justice Godswill Obomanu.
Nwauju questioned the faction’s actions. “Does running to Government House to register Governor Sim Fubara validate his group?” he asked. “Does it set aside judgments nullifying the congress that produced them? The answer is a resounding NO,” Nwauju firmly stated.
He argued that efforts to revive the faction are problematic. They expose a “dangerous disregard for legal order.” Such attempts only worsen the party’s internal crisis.
The spokesperson labelled the move illegal and provocative. He warned of significant consequences. The Governor’s registration, he said, could spark fresh, costly litigation. The Rivers APC, Nwauju emphasized, can ill afford this.
“They must stop creating room for further litigation within the Rivers APC,” Nwauju urged. He explained that this “so-called registration” was done by an illegal entity. Therefore, it can be challenged in court.
Governor Fubara Receives APC Card
Governor Fubara formally received his APC membership card. This happened at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday. Tony Okocha presented the card. Okocha claimed to represent APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda. Governor Fubara said his decision aims to promote unity and development in Rivers State.
