Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has demanded the public execution of convicted kidnappers in Nigeria. In a Friday Instagram video, he argued that without visible consequences, kidnapping crimes will continue to escalate nationwide.
Visible Punishment as Crime Deterrent
Uchemba emphasized that concealed punishments enable criminal behavior. He used a vivid analogy: “When a child steals from the mother’s pot and faces minimal consequences, it breeds hardened criminals. Similarly, hiding kidnappers’ punishment worsens our security crisis.”
China’s Death Penalty Model
The actor cited China’s strict approach where kidnapping and corruption carry the death penalty. “Our constitution prescribes death for kidnappers,” Uchemba stated. “But we rarely see enforcement. We need dedicated channels broadcasting these executions like reality shows.”
He criticized Nigeria’s reluctance to implement harsh measures: “We admire China’s results but lack their courage. Until we visibly enforce punishments, kidnapping will keep destroying lives across Nigeria.”
