Godwin Obaseki, the former Edo State Governor, claims his successor, Governor Monday Okpebholo, funded an assault. This alleged attack occurred at a recent event in Manchester, UK.
Obaseki voiced this accusation in a widely circulated video. He stated that state-paid individuals confronted him overseas. They also reportedly assaulted his team members. Obaseki declared that any aggression against him would face strong retaliation.
Obaseki explicitly warned, “Tell Governor Okpebholo, or whatever he calls himself: initiate violence, and violence will return. The government funded individuals to attack me in Manchester. They assaulted Albert. I will not stand by. I will fight back.”
The former governor noted his prior silence after leaving office. However, he stated he could no longer remain quiet given the provocations.
Transition Process Scrutiny
Obaseki also criticized the current administration’s transition process management. He delivered an 833-page transition document. Yet, officials reportedly requested sitting allowances before reviewing it. This demand surprised him.
Obaseki clarified, “I provided an 833-page transition document. I wanted my work to continue smoothly. I suggested forming a transition committee for meetings. They then demanded sitting allowances from me.”
His statements have escalated political tensions between the two factions. Supporters from both sides now exchange accusations. These include claims of mismanagement, provocation, and procedural disrespect.
