Godwin Obaseki, former Edo State Governor, has accused his successor, Governor Monday Okpebholo. Obaseki alleges Okpebholo sponsored an attack against him. This incident occurred at a recent event in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Obaseki made these claims in a viral video. He stated state-paid individuals confronted him overseas. They also reportedly assaulted his team members. Obaseki issued a strong warning. Any violence against him will face equal resistance.
Obaseki directly addressed Governor Okpebholo. He issued a stern warning against further aggression.
“Tell the governor, Okpebholo, or whatever he calls himself, that when you start with violence, you will reap violence. The government paid people to come to Manchester and attack me, and they slapped Albert. I will not fold my hands while they attack me. I am going to fight back,” he said.
The former governor noted his silence since leaving office. He stated he can no longer stay quiet. This stance comes due to continued provocation.
Obaseki criticized the new administration’s transition handling. He submitted an 833-page transition document. However, he expressed shock. Officials allegedly demanded sitting allowances. This occurred before reviewing the documents.
He shared details of the alleged demands.
“I left an 833-page transition document. I told them I don’t want my work to spoil; I called them to set up a transition committee so we could meet. They said I should pay them a sitting allowance,” he stated.
His statements have heightened political tensions. Both camps now exchange accusations. These include claims of mismanagement and provocation. Disregard for due process is also cited.
