Popular Nigerian On-Air Personality (OAP) Dotun Kayode has leveled serious accusations against the United States Embassy in Nigeria. He claims the embassy aided his estranged wife in taking their two daughters from the country.
His estranged wife had previously alleged domestic violence, emotional abuse, and a forced abortion. Dotun has consistently denied these claims. In turn, Dotun stated that his wife and her family began obstructing his access to their children.
Fresh Allegations and Embassy’s Alleged Role
Dotun recently made fresh claims on his social media platforms. He specifically highlighted the US Embassy’s involvement in his ongoing custody dispute. He accused the embassy of disregarding a court order. Dotun described their actions as aiding an act of international child abduction.
The OAP explained that his estranged wife unlawfully removed their two children from Nigeria. This occurred three years ago. She took them to the United States without his consent. This happened despite an active divorce and custody case at a Nigerian federal high court.
Dotun further claimed he held the children’s original passports. A court order also explicitly barred the children from being taken out of the country’s jurisdiction.
Demands for Accountability
Dotun demanded accountability from the US Embassy. He specifically named former Consular General, Mary Beth Leonard. He believes the process was compromised and biased. This, he alleges, facilitated his ex-wife’s actions.
He shared his frustration, stating, “Papers were most likely forged, or games played. The American embassy in Nigeria is an enabler of child abduction. Very biased. No proper investigation.”
Dotun continued, “They destroy families and do not protect kids. I have written for years and kept quiet for 3 years. It’s time. I have realised you all think you uphold a fair system, but you are very unfair.”
The popular OAP has now called on the embassy. He demands they either produce his children or provide a fair explanation. He wants to know how their strict two-parent consent policy was bypassed. He terms this incident international parental child abduction.
