Popular Nigerian OAP Dotun Kayode has leveled a serious accusation. He claims the United States Embassy in Nigeria aided his estranged wife. This assistance, he alleges, led to her elopement with their two daughters.
Background to the Dispute
Dotun’s wife had previously accused him of domestic violence. She also cited emotional abuse and forced abortion. Dotun has consistently denied these allegations.
In his counterclaims, Dotun stated his wife and her family began limiting his access. They reportedly hindered his contact with their daughters.
Embassy’s Alleged Role in Abduction
Dotun recently made fresh claims on social media. He highlighted the US Embassy’s alleged role. Their involvement, he said, dramatically altered his custody battle.
He accused the embassy of flouting a court order. He also claims they aided what he calls international child abduction.
Dotun explained the situation. His estranged wife, he claims, unlawfully took their two children. They were removed from Nigeria three years ago. She transported them to the US without his permission. This happened despite an active divorce and custody case. The case was pending at a federal high court.
He further stated he held the children’s original passports. A court order also prevented their removal from the jurisdiction. These orders were allegedly disregarded.
Demands for Accountability
Dotun demanded accountability from the embassy. He specifically named former consular general Mary Beth Leonard. He believes she oversaw a biased process. This process, he alleges, facilitated his ex-wife’s actions.
“Be assured,” Dotun stated, “papers were most likely forged, or games played.”
He directly attacked the embassy. “The American embassy in Nigeria is an enabler of child abduction. Very biased. No proper investigation.”
“They destroy families and do not protect kids,” he continued. “I have written for years. I kept quiet for three years. It’s time now. I have realised you all think you uphold a fair system, but you are very unfair.”
The OAP has called on the embassy. He wants them to either return his children. Alternatively, they should explain how their strict two-parent consent policy was bypassed. This, he argues, enabled international parental child abduction.
Drawing from his personal experience, Do2dtun also offered advice. He warned singles to “look at the family first” before picking a partner.
