Nigerian dancer and former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) star, Roseline Omokhoa Afije, is popularly known as Liquorose. She recently revealed a significant hurdle she faced. A positive COVID-19 test in 2020 almost cost her a spot on the reality show.
This unexpected setback deeply affected her. It almost made her abandon her long-held dream of participating in BBNaija.
Both Liquorose and fellow hopeful contestant, Jaypaul, were sidelined that year. Their inability to join stemmed from testing positive for COVID-19.
Despite this major disappointment, both individuals persevered. They returned the very next year to re-audition for the show.
Liquorose confessed she nearly skipped the 2021 auditions entirely. Her previous experience almost deterred her. However, a supportive friend encouraged her to try again.
She eventually went through the rigorous audition process. Later, she discovered she had been successfully selected.
Her persistence ultimately paid off in a big way. Liquorose competed in Big Brother Naija Season 5, the 2021 edition. She emerged as the first runner-up. Whitemoney eventually won the grand prize.
Recounting the experience, Liquorose stated, “In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. My makeup was done, and I was fully dressed. Yet, I wasn’t called. That truly hurt me deeply.”
She continued, “That earlier experience weighed heavily on my mind. The following year, I didn’t even want to audition again. But my friend convinced me to give it another shot. I just auditioned and didn’t think much of it. One day, I decided to check my spam folder. To my surprise, I found I had been selected. It was absolutely crazy!”
