Ayonla Althentic, media aide to popular Fuji singer Abass Akande, famously known as Obesere, has revealed details of a violent attack in Ondo State. He claims his boss lost a staggering N95 million in cash and valuable jewellery. Althentic shared his harrowing account on Facebook on Wednesday.
The aide stated the attack was a calculated operation. It unfolded as Obesere and his team were leaving an event venue. Althentic specified that thugs stole a bag containing N25 million. This sum combined earnings from a previous show and that day’s performance.
Additionally, Obesere’s gold necklace, valued at N45 million, was forcefully taken. His gold wristwatch, worth an estimated N25 million, was also stolen during the assault.
Aide Recounts The Attack
“Around 6:00 p.m., I noticed unfamiliar faces,” Althentic wrote. “They were not dressed like bereaved family members; they looked like street boys. Alhaji Obesere even sang to hail them. They danced, appearing happy, unaware of their true mission.”
He continued: “When the band stopped playing, they had already entered the band bus. As Alhaji Obesere and I tried to move out of the field to our parked car, a large group of hoodlums rushed at us. They blocked our way, demanding I hand over the bag of money.”

Althentic described how other thugs surrounded Obesere. They demanded more money from the singer. Even after he offered them some ransom, they insisted on receiving more. “He asked to move to his car to give them more, but they didn’t take it easy with him,” Althentic stated.
During the struggle, the attackers also seized Obesere’s gold necklace, valued at N45 million. His gold wristwatch, worth about N25 million, was also forcibly taken.
“On my side, I was violently beaten,” Althentic recounted. “I was hit with blows and a plank as they tried to seize the bag. The struggle led to my left shoulder being dislocated. I was also stabbed with a knife, but I clung to the money and tried to escape.”
He added that the attackers were more numerous than he expected. “Suddenly, I received a hit on the back of my head. I lost consciousness for a few seconds. When I came back, the bag of money had been taken.”
The stolen bag contained N20 million from their previous performance. It also held roughly N5 million made on stage that afternoon, totalling N25 million. Althentic noted that Obesere had just returned from a European tour, encompassing France and the UK, making the total amount lost extremely significant.
