Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire has dismissed the N100 million legal suit filed against her by fellow actor Taiye Arimoro. She described his allegations as misleading, selective, and materially false.
The Allegations: Taiye Arimoro’s Account
Arimoro claims the incident began when a production manager stopped his vehicle. Another car then blocked his exit. Feeling unsafe, he began an Instagram Live session to record the events. The dispute escalated at the estate gate. There, Ovire and her team allegedly confronted him.
He reported his tyres were deflated and several people surrounded him. Arimoro also claims he sustained injuries. These included a fractured jaw, bite marks, and bruises.
Peggy Ovire’s Defence and Counter-Claims
However, Peggy Ovire, through her legal representatives, insists Arimoro is twisting the facts. Her lawyers state that Arimoro attempted to flee immediately after the incident. Any efforts to stop him aimed to prevent his escape before police arrived.
They maintain that Peggy never assaulted him. The only physical contact, they explain, occurred when she “pushed him lightly.” This happened after he allegedly tried to deflate her tyres. Ovire’s legal team claims Arimoro’s Instagram Live was a deliberate attempt to manipulate public opinion. They also allege that the CCTV clips he shared were selectively edited.
The letter dismissed claims of mob action, a broken jaw, harassment, or violence as fabricated. The lawyers added that both the police and the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) are actively investigating the matter.
Ovire Addresses Her Silence
In an Instagram post, Ovire herself addressed the controversy. She stated her silence should not be mistaken for weakness. She reminded the public that the investigation is ongoing. The truth, she added, will eventually unfold.
“Until the police investigation is concluded,” she wrote, “let it be clear that my Silence Should not be mistaken for Cowardice.”
