Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has strongly condemned controversial cleric Sheikh Ahmed Gumi.
Charly Boy criticized Gumi’s recent statement that attacking bandits would not resolve Nigeria’s insecurity challenges.
Sheikh Gumi had previously argued that military action against bandits would only escalate violence. He instead proposed dialogue and listening to the grievances of these criminal groups.
Responding on Instagram, Charly Boy highlighted the severe atrocities committed by bandits. He questioned the rationale behind negotiating with them.
The entertainer warned the cleric to stop defending such evil acts. Charly Boy lamented that Gumi’s remarks made Nigeria appear as a safe haven for criminals.
Charly Boy Questions Gumi’s Sanity Over Bandit Comments
In his social media post, Charly Boy directly addressed Sheikh Gumi, asking, “Are you alright? Do you need medical attention?”
He further questioned Gumi’s judgment, asking, “Do you think before you talk?” Charly Boy strongly challenged the cleric’s assertion that attacking bandits would be a mistake. He concluded with a sharp rebuke: “Are you mad? Are you normal? Or has a bandit spirit colonized your sense?”
The entertainer passionately described the suffering across the nation. “People are crying,” he stated, “families are burying children, farmers cannot go to their farms, and villages are empty like ghost towns.”
He expressed disbelief that Gumi would publicly defend criminals amidst such widespread suffering, referring to them as “your congregation.”
He questioned Gumi’s motives, asking, “What is wrong with you?”
Charly Boy criticized the cleric’s frequent public statements. These often advocated for negotiation, amnesty, and insisted that “bandits are not terrorists.” He then bluntly told Gumi, “Shut up abeg.”
Charly Boy challenged Gumi to consider the victims. He asked what kind of amnesty Gumi had suggested for those affected. He also questioned any negotiations Gumi might have held with families whose futures were shattered by bandits.
“It is clear you represent these killers,” Charly Boy asserted.
“You speak like their Public Relations Officer,” Charly Boy declared. He further described Gumi as acting like the bandits’ “spiritual adviser” and “unofficial mouthpiece.”
“Honestly, I am tired of your nonsense,” the musician stated. He added, “You are a cleric, but your words do not bring peace. You are fake.”
“You act as if bandits are an endangered species we are meant to protect,” Charly Boy remarked sarcastically.
He then invoked a curse on Gumi: “God punish you for us.”
‘Dialogue’ as an Excuse to Pamper Killers is Part of the Problem
“Let me tell you now,” Charly Boy declared. “Any leader, cleric, or elder who uses ‘dialogue’ as an excuse to pamper killers is part of the problem.”
He issued a grave warning: “You will not die well, I swear.”
Charly Boy then presented a hypothetical scenario to Gumi. “If bandits kidnapped your family, if they butchered your people,” he questioned, “your mouth would never utter ‘dialogue’.”
He predicted that Gumi “would suddenly turn into a military commander.” Charly Boy believed Gumi “would shout ‘attack them!’ louder than a siren.”
Charly Boy concluded his message with a direct charge to Sheikh Gumi:
“Hear me well: Stop talking nonsense. Stop defending evil. Stop creating confusion. Stop making Nigeria look like a playground for criminals.”
He urged Gumi to “for once, use your influence to speak the truth.” Charly Boy listed the truths Gumi should utter: “Bandits must be crushed. Victims must be protected. Government must wake up.”
Charly Boy issued a final ultimatum: “If you cannot say that, at least respect your old age and shut up.” He added a derogatory remark, “Your fathers left nyash.”
Finally, the entertainer appealed to his followers: “Make una help me rain curses on this mad man.”
