Mavin Records CEO, Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has clarified a long-standing claim regarding an incident in the United Kingdom.
He recently dismissed allegations that he evaded arrest after an accident during his early career days in the UK.
Bankulli’s Allegations
The claims resurfaced after music executive Bankulli spoke about the incident. Bankulli alleged that Don Jazzy removed his vehicle’s plate number and fled the scene when police arrived.
He recounted, “I refused to put a particular story about Don Jazzy in the Afrobeats documentary.” Bankulli explained that Don Jazzy was struggling in London at the time. “He had an accident and the car got destroyed,” he added.
According to Bankulli, Don Jazzy fell asleep while driving home from a show and crashed his car. “He left the car, removed the plate number and ran away,” Bankulli stated. He attributed this action to the high cost of towing the vehicle, which would have exceeded repair costs. Bankulli then noted Don Jazzy’s current success, owning “fleets of cars.”
Public Reaction and Don Jazzy’s Response
Following Bankulli’s comments, an X user expressed concern. The user feared the case could be reopened if Don Jazzy visited the UK. They wrote, “With this reckless talk from Bankulli, I really hope Don Jazzy isn’t planning a trip to London. They can reopen a 20-year-old case!”
Don Jazzy quickly responded to reassure his fans. He urged them not to panic, stating that Bankulli’s recollection was not entirely accurate due to the passage of time. He confirmed he did not evade authorities.
The music mogul explained his side of the story. He confirmed waiting for the police after the accident. They administered a breathalyser test to check for alcohol. Don Jazzy tested negative, confirming he was not drunk.
Despite passing the test, the police still impounded his vehicle. Don Jazzy then made the decision to abandon the car. He explained that the fine required to retrieve the car was significantly higher than the car’s actual value.
He wrote, “Lol no panic. It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police. They came and gave me a breathalyser to determine if I was drunk. I wasn’t, but the car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol.”
