Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has confirmed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will proceed with its national elective convention in Ibadan this weekend. As chairman of the party’s Convention Planning Committee, Fintiri made the declaration following a crucial stakeholders meeting.
The strategic gathering occurred at Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro. Key attendees included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and PDP acting National Chairman Umar Damagum. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba also participated.
Fintiri expressed confidence in the convention’s execution after the closed-door session. He emphasized the event would proceed as planned without disruptions.
“We concluded our critical stakeholders’ meeting with significant decisions,” stated Fintiri. “Our convention in Ibadan remains sacrosanct. Nothing will stop it.”
This affirmation comes amid legal uncertainties surrounding the convention’s legitimacy. Conflicting court orders had created doubts about the proceedings.
PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West) Kamorudeen Ajisafe confirmed constitutional requirements were met. He noted delegates from two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 states would attend.
“Delegates began arriving since Wednesday,” Ajisafe explained. “We have secured sufficient attendance for a valid convention. Two-thirds participation satisfies constitutional thresholds.”
