Banners promoting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a presidential candidate for 2027 dominated the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention in Ibadan on Friday. The Adamasingba Stadium, hosting the PDP’s November 15-16 convention, featured large campaign posters displaying Makinde’s image at key entrance points and throughout the facility.
One prominent banner attributed to the group “Lana Fun Seyi” boldly declared: “Seyi Makinde for President.” Another display sponsored by Fapetu Stephen from Ido Local Government proclaimed: “Relax, Seyi Makinde will fix Nigeria 2027.” These visuals immediately captured the attention of arriving delegates, party leaders, and observers.
Despite months of speculation about Makinde’s presidential aspirations, the governor has consistently stated he would reveal his plans “when the time is right.” He previously dismissed earlier rumors as “unsolicited commentary,” maintaining he requires no permission to address his political future.
The convention venue also showcased campaigns for other PDP figures seeking national positions. Supporters displayed banners for Kabiru Turaki, former Minister of Special Duties and national chairmanship aspirant. Promotional materials for Taofeek Arapaja’s bid to become PDP National Secretary also appeared throughout the stadium.
Vibrant displays from various support groups created a festive pre-convention atmosphere as thousands of delegates arrived in Ibadan. The gathering aims to establish a new National Working Committee to lead Nigeria’s main opposition party toward the 2027 general elections.
