Popular Nigerian comedian Destalker has revealed his unconventional path to comedy began after failing at internet fraud, an activity introduced by a friend who is now a Christian pastor. The comedian disclosed he couldn’t succeed in the fraudulent schemes due to his compassionate nature.
Destalker recounted spending nights in cybercafés where his friend paid for extended browsing sessions aimed at online scams. While his partner actively sought victims, he engaged differently. Instead of scamming, Destalker spent time connecting with family and old schoolmates on social media before falling asleep.
He soon realized internet fraud wasn’t his calling. The experience taught him valuable lessons about perseverance that later fueled his comedy career. Destalker emphasized that his kind-hearted disposition made deception impossible for him.
A Turning Point
In his own words: “Before leaving Enugu, I attempted internet fraud with my friend Rev. Nelson Umeh, now a prominent pastor. He covered our cybercafé fees since I couldn’t afford them. While he searched for scam victims, I chatted with loved ones on Facebook.”
Destalker added: “I understood this path wasn’t my destiny. Defrauding people contradicts my nature. The challenges I faced built unshakeable confidence. No obstacle could deter me from my goals.”
Triumph Over Adversity
Despite facing rejection in entertainment circles, Destalker persisted. He recalled established comedians blocking his opportunities. They claimed he couldn’t perform without their approval.
He defied these predictions: “I told them I’d succeed without their platforms. And I did. Today, some of those shows no longer exist. Some comedians who doubted me have faded into irrelevance.”
Destalker’s journey stands as proof that authentic passion and resilience can overcome misguided starts in life.
