APC Dismisses Ethnic Politics as Ineffective Against Tinubu in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confidently stated that President Bola Tinubu remains unassailable in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, dismissing claims that ethnic or religious strategies could undermine his candidacy.

This declaration from the Lagos State chapter of the APC comes as a direct rebuttal to recent comments by Dele Momodu, who suggested that opposition parties could challenge Tinubu by leveraging ethnic and religious sentiments, particularly by fielding a strong northern candidate.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, countered this notion, asserting that Nigerian politics has evolved beyond such divisive tactics. He emphasized that the electorate now prioritizes tangible results and effective governance over identity politics.

Oladejo stated, “Let it be known that the days of weaponizing ethnicity as a shortcut to power are long gone. The Nigerian electorate has evolved. They are now focused on who can deliver results, not who can divide the nation. Nigerians know better. They know that leadership is earned through vision, performance, and consistency—not through editorials written from the sidelines of social gigs.”

He further advised Momodu, who recently switched his allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to concentrate on building his new party rather than engaging in speculative commentary.

Oladejo also expressed confidence in the current administration, stating, “This administration is proving that leadership is about ideas, not identity. Truth be told, political realists have accepted the defeat of the opposition, come the year 2027, individually and collectively.”

He concluded by predicting that the 2027 election would serve as a referendum on competence and performance, not on ethnicity or nostalgia, and that in such a contest, Momodu’s approach would hold no sway.
