Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, known as 2Baba or 2Face, has revealed surprising downsides to his iconic song “African Queen”. The global hit brought him unprecedented fame but also unexpected complications.
“African Queen has been a huge blessing,” 2Baba stated during an Entertainment & Lifestyle show appearance. “But it also became problematic for me. Still, I’m grateful for everything.”
Historic Success Meets Controversy
Released in 2004, “African Queen” propelled 2Baba to international stardom. The breakthrough made him the first African artist to win BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards. This cemented his status in music history.
However, the track has remained controversial for over two decades. Former bandmate Blackface repeatedly claims 2Baba stole the song. 2Baba acknowledges it began as a collaboration but denies theft allegations.
New Controversies Emerge
The debate intensified when Billboard named “African Queen” the greatest Afrobeats song of all time in 2025. This recognition reignited discussions about the song’s origins and ownership.
Despite the ongoing disputes, the 50-year-old artist maintains perspective. He recognizes the song’s transformative role in his career while acknowledging its complex legacy in Nigerian music history.
