Mateo Kovacic Rejects Transfer Rumours, Affirms Manchester City Commitment
Mateo Kovacic has downplayed speculation about leaving Manchester City, stating the club still sees him as part of its plans despite ongoing links with a return to Serie A.
The Croatia international has been linked with Juventus and his former club Inter Milan during the summer transfer window.
At 32, Kovacic is entering the final year of his Etihad contract and has not yet signed an extension, which has fuelled uncertainty about his future.
His appearances were limited last season due to Achilles and ankle injuries, restricting him to just nine matches.
Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca gave a cautious comment after Saturday’s friendly against Inter, saying Mateo is our player and he will do his best to help him give his best while he remains at the club.
Although Maresca stopped short of guaranteeing a long‑term stay, Kovacic said private talks with the club reassured him that they count on him.
He added that it is up to each player to perform at their best, as good form will earn the manager’s trust.
