Regina Chukwu Alleges “Sex for Role” Practice in English Nollywood
Regina Chukwu, a well‑known figure in the Yoruba‑language arm of Nollywood, has asserted that the English‑language side of the Nigerian movie industry functions on a strict “sex for role” basis. According to her, actresses must engage in sexual relationships with producers, actors, and even lower‑level staff before they can hope to achieve prominence.
Audition Experiences at Winnings Hotel, Surulere
Chukwu recounted multiple audition attempts at the popular venue known as Winnings Hotel in Surulere, Lagos — a spot frequented by industry heavyweights such as Genevieve Nnaji and others. She explained that despite her repeated efforts, the English‑language circuit proved far less welcoming than its Yoruba counterpart.
“There’s a place we normally go for auditions at Surulere, Winnings Hotel. That was where those actors used to be, including Genevieve and co. We were all sitting at Winnings Hotel and I tried auditioning several times but they are not as accommodating as Yorubas.”

The actress added that, although she is Igbo by tribe, her inability to navigate both the English and Yoruba sectors has limited her overall fame. She noted that while she enjoys recognition in Lagos and the South‑West states, many people in her home state of Enugu do not recognize her as an actress.
