Bride Calls Off Wedding Over Money Spraying Dispute
A Nigerian bride sparked widespread attention after abruptly calling off her nuptials when she discovered that the groom’s relatives would be tasked with gathering the cash sprayed during the ceremony.
A clip spreading rapidly on X (formerly Twitter) shows the distressed bride challenging the custom, asserting that the funds should be collected by her own kin rather than the groom’s side.
She voiced her irritation: “Una don see where groom family for dey pick money for marriage? Abeg, comot the okuku wey dey my head. I’m not getting married again. How will he say his family will be the one to pick our money? I no go allow am.”
The bride declared she could not proceed with the marriage due to the dispute, labeling the groom a “mummy’s boy.”
She emphasized that plenty of other suitors exist, and she refuses to settle for someone overly swayed by his family.
She argued that permitting the groom’s family to retrieve the sprayed cash is unacceptable, maintaining that this duty falls to the bride’s family, and that the disagreement alone justifies ending the engagement.
“Please remove the okuku on my head. It’s the bride’s family that picks money during the ceremony. What kind of nonsense is that? I can’t get married to a mummy’s boy. Husband full everywhere. Make he go look for him wife for front, so they can be doing mummy’s boy and mummy’s girl together,” she added.
The footage has provoked varied reactions online; some netizens applaud her position, while others contend the matter could have been settled through dialogue instead of canceling the wedding.
