Former Sokoto PDP Governorship Candidate Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma Defects to APC
Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Sokoto State election, Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by Wamakko’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashar Abubakar.
Ubandoma previously served as Commissioner for Finance and later as Secretary to the Sokoto State Government under the Tambuwal administration before emerging as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general election.
Explaining his decision to leave the PDP for the APC, Ubandoma said he was impressed by Wamakko’s leadership style, political maturity, and inclusive approach to governance.
He also commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration, noting that its development programmes and people‑focused policies convinced him to join the ruling party in the state.
According to Ubandoma, the government’s interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and rural development demonstrate a clear commitment to improving residents’ lives.
He added that sustainable development can only be achieved through broad‑based political collaboration among stakeholders dedicated to Sokoto State’s progress.
Wamakko welcomed the former PDP candidate, describing his defection as a major boost for the APC in Sokoto State.
He said the rising number of political figures joining the APC reflects growing public confidence in the party’s leadership and style of governance.
Wamakko assured Ubandoma and his supporters that they would be fully integrated into the party and emphasized that the APC remains open to anyone willing to contribute to the peace, progress, and development of Sokoto State and Nigeria.
